It is with a broken heart that we say goodbye to a beloved French fashion designer. Count Huber de Givenchy who founded the house of Givenchy passed away Saturday, leaving behind a fashion legacy. Givenchy who was famous for designing the personal and professional wardrobe of non other then his close friend and muse Audrey Hepburn. He also designed clothing for the First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, or as she is also know as Jackie O.
Givenchy started his fashion career in 1945, his first designs were done for Jacques Fath. In 1946 he went on to do designs for Robert Piguet and Lucien Lelong, while working along side the still-unknown Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior.
At 25 Givenchy was the youngest designer of the progressive Paris Fashion scene. In 1953 he met his muse and life long friend Audrey Hepburn during the shooting of the film Sabrina. He went on and designed her iconic Black dress she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey became the face of Givenchy fashion and Givenchy fragrance.
Count Hubert de Givenchy passed away Saturday March 10 in his sleep at the Renaissance Chateau near Paris at the age of 91 years old.
