The 46th annual American Music Awards took place last night October 9, 2018, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The show opened with a bang as Taylor Swift performed "I Did Something Bad" making it clear she was back, and she did not come to play!

For the second year in a row the show was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, best known for her role in the comedy series Black-ish. Tracee is known to not hold back on anything and  her opening number proved just that! She performed choreography as well as vocals during her musical medley. Featuring music from Queen B Beyonce, Childish, Gambino, Cardi B and many more.

It was definitely made clear that women ran the night, as Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello led the night with four awards each! Taylor broke her own record for most wins by a female artist. 
Camila Cabello won 4 out of the 5 categories she was nominated in: New Artist of the Year, Best song in Pop/Rock,Best Collaboration
and Best Video of the Year!
Cardi B also was another big name to take over the winners circle last night. Winning 3 out of the 8 categories she was nominated in: Rap/Hip-hop Artist, Best Rap/Hip-hop Song of the Year and Best Soul/R&B Song of the Year.

To close the show, the AMAs did the most amazing tribute to the iconic Queen of Soul and Gospel Aretha Franklin. Aretha passed away this August leaving her legacy to be loved and shared by millions!
Last night Gladys Knight performed a touching rendition of Amazing Grace. Following Knight minister and gospel singer McClurkin belted out "Climb a Higher Mountain". From there gospel singer Winans sang a very touching version of "Mary Don't You Weep" Finally Mary Mary took the stage with their rendition of "Old Landmark"
